The old man uses a wooden board to move around
Thankfully, there were good samaritans who helped him.
On January 14, an individual noticed an elderly struggling to ride in a taxi due to mobility difficulties. His video, taken by a citizen, was uploaded to social media platforms and raised concerns for his safety.
Based on the recorded video, he was sitting on the ground of the road in front of Block 141 Yishun Ring Road while his belonging was on his wooden board. He was waiting for a vehicle. Later, a taxi pullover slowly moved by swinging his body using his arms and managed to reach the front door, but he struggled to get inside the vehicle due to his difficulties. Luckily, a man helped him get his stuff, and another man managed to guide him into the front door while the older man's taxi driver helped him sit properly.
The video now reached 130,000 views, and many were concerned about his status. One of them said, "We need more this type of human in SG .. SG will be more beautiful & right place to stay .. thank you to these three kind heart people". But some individuals were curious if the MP in their area helped them or ignored the man's situation and said, "Hope the authorities are seeing this. He needs help urgently. Heartwarming to see all the men here helping out."
The Minister for Home Affairs and Law, Mr. K Shanmugam, posted an official statement regarding the older man, who uses a wooden skate to move around. According to him, the man was Mr. Lee and his family are provided by The grassroots, Chong Pang CC, and Touch Cluster Support since 2015. He also clarified that the Chong Pang volunteer organizations were helping him with his essentials. They also gave him a wheelchair and pursued to use it, but he prefers the wooden skateboard that his neighbors built.
On the other hand, Mr. K Shanmugam thanked the individuals who extended their concern to Mr. Lee and said they would continue helping and assisting them.
