In 2023 we shared the news that Toa Payoh was getting a regional sport centre, a polyclinic, a library and a town park in one development. A lot has moved since then. Work started on 5 January 2025, the design details are clearer, and the old Toa Payoh Sport Centre has been closed for redevelopment since 31 October 2023.

This is a refreshed guide to what is being built, what is staying, and where you can exercise in the meantime. The development is still expected to be completed by 2030, so these are plans, not yet places you can visit.

Status as of 7 November 2026 (SGT): under construction, expected completion 2030. Facility details are from 2025 announcements and could still be adjusted.

This article is an updated version of our 2023 story, which you can compare with the original:

The new ActiveSG sport centre has grown in detail since 2023. Plans announced at the groundbreaking list:

  • A stadium seating 10,000.
  • An indoor sports hall seating 5,000, with 22 badminton courts.
  • An aquatic centre seating 2,000, with four indoor pools and three outdoor leisure pools.
  • A 500-seat team sports hall with netball courts, plus sheltered courts for tennis (six), futsal (two) and netball.
  • 44 table tennis tables.
  • A 1,500 sqm ActiveSG gym and two gym activity rooms.

Our 2023 story also mentioned national training centres for aquatics, netball and table tennis. We did not find those confirmed in the 2025 announcements we checked, so we have left them out here.

Polyclinic. The redeveloped Toa Payoh Polyclinic will replace the current one. It will serve patients of all ages with childhood developmental screening, chronic disease management and health promotion focused on healthy living and active ageing. No separate polyclinic timeline has been given beyond the 2030 target.

Library. A new, bigger library will replace the existing one, with more space to read, learn and discover, plus new ways of delivering services. Interim arrangements for the current library were not described in the releases we reviewed.

Town park. Toa Payoh Town Park, Singapore's first town park, will be rejuvenated with more greenery and new amenities, while the Lookout Tower and the park's heritage character are kept. NParks has been considering an allotment garden, a therapeutic garden, a multi-purpose event lawn, a dog run and a nature playgarden, based on what was shared with residents.

Where to exercise in the meantime

The old Toa Payoh Sport Centre closed on 31 October 2023, and ActiveSG's page lists it as closed for redevelopment until 2030. The page suggests these alternatives:

ActiveSG Gym at Toa Payoh West Community Centre and ActiveSG Gym at Toa Payoh.
Facilities at the MOE (Evans) site, including a sport hall, stadium, swimming complex, hockey pitch and tennis centre.
School fields and halls, such as at Bartley Secondary and Beatty Secondary.
ActiveSG sport centres in Bishan and Jalan Besar, which SportSG pointed users to at the time of closure.
The page does not say whether each alternative is open to the public now or how to book it, so confirm on MyActiveSG+ or call the centre at 6259 2916.
