On January 22, at 7 PM, the floor tiles in Mr. Fauzi Hussin's flat burst. Luckily, his toddler and his mother-in-law, who happened to be a few inches away from the tiles, were not physically injured.

The installed CCTV camera in the living room recorded the scene, wherein a toddler was sitting on his stroller in the living room and watching the television. Luckily, Mr. Hussin's mother-in-law was on her way to approach the child. Then, they heard a crackling sound, and tiles exploded. Mr. Hussin's wife ran towards the living room while her mother grabbed the toddler towards her. Both of them didn't know what was going on and were frightened. They thought there was an earthquake and quickly evacuated the area then went to the void deck.

At least three tiles exploded, including the one that burst a few inches away from the toddler. Thankfully, none of them was injured.

Due to the incident, Mr. Hussin tried to reach out to the Essential Maintenance Service Unit (EMSU) on the following day. But, the EMSU representative told him to proceed to House Development Board (HBD). Unfortunately, HBD does not have a 24 hours hotline and is only in service during office hours. On January 24, 2022, he reached out to HBD, and the maintenance officer went in to check their flat.

Mr. Hussin clarified that they are aware that the HDB is not reliable for the damages and called in to lodge a report and obtain an inspection report that they need to claim their house insurance.

He decided to share the lessons they have learned from their experiences, and anyone who purchased a resale flat must ensure the floors are checked by a building inspector and renovated within your limit. Lastly, avail of home insurance just in case unexpected situations at home happen.

Mr. Hussin said, "We are born and bred in HDB. We are Budak Flat.. 40 years of life, and this is our first encounter. Moving forward, I hope our situation can create awareness and help others understand or react to such situation." He also thanked the individuals that showed kindness and prayers for his family.
