Most eligible individuals in Singapore had already received a complete regimen or at least one dose against the Covid19 as of December 5. A vaccine has been administered first on adults, seniors, and children above 12 years old.

To slowly complete and protect every individual island wide, the Multi-Ministry Taskforce accepted the recommendation of the Expert Committee on Covid19 Vaccination (EC19V) for ages five to eleven years old.

Before the year ends, if the Pfizer-BioNTech, also known as the Comirnaty, the vaccination will roll out when it arrives in Singapore.

According to the Senior Minister of State for Health, Dr. Janil Puthucheary posted on his Facebook account on December 10 regarding the vaccination.

Dr. Puthucheary said that the Medicines Advisory Committee and Panel of Infectious Diseases Experts from the Health Sciences Authority had evaluated the current data of the Pfizer-BioNTech. The evaluation concluded that the benefits outweigh the risk and meet the efficacy standard, quality and safety.

How efficient is the Comirnaty on children?

Studies are still ongoing, but the pediatric dose of Comirnaty has been administered to 2,000 children ages 5 to 11 years old, and the result shows that the efficiency ranges up to 90.7%.

Side effects

It is the most common question of every guardian or parent after hearing of the availability of vaccines. In the report, children after vaccination had side effects such as pain on the injection part, headache, fatigue, chill, and fever. They usually had milder side effects than older individuals jabbed with the vaccine.

Dosage of Comirnaty

The Ministry of Health announced that the recommended dosage for this age is two doses of Pfizer-BioNTech/Comirnaty vaccines of 10 micrograms and should have at least 21 days before taking the second dose.

Based on the data from the infected individuals from the Covid19, children usually have milder symptoms but hospitalized children require oxygen supplementation and are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

It is not only Singapore that announced vaccination between these ages. Some countries have already started administering the vaccine to children five years old and above.
