In earlier days, housing board dormitories are close-knit communities -- the kampong spirit, they say. Everyone used to gather and share their meals in the neighborhood. Memories from these years are well, golden.

A netizen posted a short video of a woman and a man cooking in the corridor on social media. The person was concerned about what may happen if these people won't clean their burned charcoal.

At least hundreds of individuals live in one HBD flat, and if a fire breaks out in the area, many will lose their homes, or worse someone could die.

As the netizen posted the video, he captioned it, "Please don't cook along the HBD corridor."

In a video shared by the concerned person, an older man and woman can be captured cooking dumplings in a metal tin with a charcoal stove.

The uploader did not mention the place and where the exact location of this incident happened, perhaps would serve as a reminder to all the people that live in HBD to be extra careful in handling fire.

Some of the renters in HBD often hang their laundries in the corridor, making this place a huge fire risk.

According to the Singapore Civil Defense Force, the rate of fire in Singapore was decreasing by 78% as of 2020. It will be great if these numbers decrease each year. Based on the reports, one of the fire causes in dormitories or residential areas was unattended cooking.

Other people saw the short video as alarming and must not be tolerated. However, some remember the good old kampong days.

In the comment section, they said, "It takes me back to my childhood," "This is how we used to cook with my grandparents," while others say, "Life is best before, we gather on Sunday in the corridor and bring foods to share."

Though nostalgic, we should always keep our neighbourhood safe.
