Jia Jia's Cub Celebrates its 100th Day on Planet Earth
Happy 100th-day, cub!
November 21 is the 100th day of Jia Jia and Kai Kai's little cub at the Singapore River Safari. Jia Jia enjoyed herself with her favorite bamboo shoots and ice block infused with honey as a treat for her and celebration for the day.
On April 24, 2021, Jia Jia went to artificial insemination. Pregnancy symptoms were noticed by the care team later in July. Then, on August 10, the veterinary services did an ultrasound and recognised a strong heartbeat. After a few days, Jia Jia gave birth to a male cub on August 14, 2021, that weighs 200 grams.
Both Kai Kai and Jia Jia arrived in Singapore in 2012 under a 10-year loan from the Chinese Authorities. They were supposed to go back to China next year, as per agreement. But, the birth of the baby panda hopefully extends Jia Jia's stay. They first mated in 2015, and in almost seven years, they welcomed a baby cub.
Most people have witnessed the pregnancy, birth, and growing baby panda. Little by little, the cub grows healthier with the care of his mother, Jia Jia.
The panda care team installed a 100 year inside the enclosure. They carefully attached it to unreachable branches so Jia Jia wouldn't be able to reach it. She also had a bamboo shoot and a heart-shaped ice drop that she enjoyed a lot.
They gave it to her as a treat for giving birth and taking care of her offspring. At her age, she exceeded the other panda in taking care of their cubs, and she did it very well.
The same day, the cub was weighed in by the panda team and found out he gained up to 6.36 kilograms. He made his first step on November 19 and is expected to be part of the public exhibition in 2022.
As of now, many were waiting for the cub's name to be revealed in between Hóng Hóng, Lè Lè, Xīn Lè, Xīn Yáng, and Xīn Yuán.
