Normally, you will start seeing Christmas decors in Singapore after Thanksgiving (yes, some establishments do celebrate Thanksgiving).

The famous Orchard Road shopping belt would be lit with festive lights and Christmas decors from the end of November until the end of December, creating a totally different mood.

Not only that, Christmas buffet and season’s special menus would be offered by restaurants island-wide. Luxury hotels would sell ham packages in posh packaging for your Christmas even dinners.

Then there are presents – most offices would exchange presents with their colleagues before some go on their holiday break. Christian or not, everybody takes part in these Christmas celebrations.

Despite all the commercial frivolity, the holiday still remains to be mainly a religious one for Christians in Singapore. On Christmas Day, 25 December, a special Christmas mass is held in celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

As Singapore is a melting pot of cultures and religion, so Christmas feast is not your traditional Western feast. It’s not uncommon to see mee and fried rice in your Christmas table, FYI.

The best place to experience Christmas would be along the Orchard Road shopping belt. Every year, there’s a new jolly theme, with lots of photo opportunities.
